Nala sat on the edge of the bed, nursing her bruised wrist, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. His grip had been too tight, his anger boiling over in a way that frightened her. “What do you want from me?” she yelled, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and defiance.

His eyes flashed with something unreadable, a mixture of frustration and regret. “Why are you trying to run away from me?” he demanded, his voice harsh and demanding.

“I wasn’t trying to run away,” Nala shot back, tears now streaming down her face. She hated how vulnerable she felt in this moment, how powerless.

His expression softened, a hint of sorrow in his eyes. “I’m sorry,” he said, the words sounding foreign coming from him. He seemed surprised by his own apology, as if it had slipped out before he could stop it.

Nala was taken aback. She had never expected him to apologize, not after everything that had happened between them. His words eased some of the tension in the room, and she felt a glimmer of hope that maybe things could be different between them.
