Jay’s life had always been on the fringes. Abandoned as a child, he was raised by a gruff butcher in a sleepy village on the edge of a magical world. Here, the coming-of-age ceremony wasn’t a joyous celebration, but a gateway to destiny. Young adults received their “class” from a mana conduit, a magical touch that unlocked their potential as warriors, mages, or healers. Every boy dreamt of becoming a valiant knight or a powerful wizard, venturing forth on grand adventures. Jay, however, dreamt of a simpler life – away from the stench of blood and the constant reminders of his abandonment.

The day of his ceremony arrived, and with a nervous flutter in his stomach, Jay stepped forward. As the mana flowed through him, a notification flashed in his mind. “Status,” he thought, a nervous habit from countless hours spent reading about adventurers.
